France World Cup winger FRANCK RIBERY (7) of record German champion Bayern Munich, who would ultimately draw the assist on the second goal of the European match against his countrymen, looks to cross the ball before OSC Lille’s Montenegro international defender MARKO BASA (23) can intervene during the UEFA Champions League Group F contest at the always sold-out Allianz Arena in Bavaria.

UEFA Champions League
Group F

6 – BAYERN MUNICH (Ger) —— Schweinsteiger 5′, Pizarro 18′, 28′, 33′, Robben 23′, Kroos 66′
1 – OSC LILLE (Fra) ——————— Kalou 57′

An explosive five-goal outburst, including a hat trick from the stand-in striker, to begin this vital match clearly demoralized the visitors quickly and enabled record German champion BAYERN MUNICH to easily coast to a 6-1 rout of French Ligue 1 side OSC LILLE in Group F of the UEFA Champions League.

Germany international BASTIAN SCHWEINSTEIGER, who had netted the first goal for the Bavarians in the weekend triumph over SV Hamburg only days earlier, again found the back of the net for Bayern Munich with a free kick just five minutes into the mid-week European match opposite OSC Lille; a second goal of the season for the 28-year-old defensive midfielder, who also scored in the UEFA Champions League contest with Spanish La Liga side CF Valencia earlier this term.

Bayern Munich, of course, had entered the important match with their French guests at the Allianz Arena level on points in Group F but standing in third place behind both CF Valencia and the upstart Belarussian side BATE Borisov by virtue of goal-differential.

It had been just a few weeks shy of six years since veteran Peru international CLAUDIO PIZARRO had scored a goal for Bayern Munich in European competition. It was on that occasion when Pizarro had scored both goals for the visiting Bavarians in a 2-2 draw with host Russian club Spartak Moscow in late November of 2006. But with Croatia international MARIO MANDZUKIC out of action on account of the flu, it would take the now 34-year-old striker just fifteen minutes to fire three goals for trainer JUPP HEYNCKES’ side against the French outfit OSC Lille.

Holland World Cup winger ARJEN ROBBEN, who, like Pizarro, still has not scored a goal in the Bundesliga this season but did tally twice in the 4-0 romp over second division 1.FC Kaiserslautern in the D.F.B. Pokal, gave Bayern Munich a 3-0 lead against the visiting French Ligue 1 side with a deflected free kick in the 23rd minute; with the strike against OSC Lille, the Dangerous Dutchman celebrated a 10th career goal on his 23rd career European appearance for the traditional Bavarian giants.

Ivory Coast international SALOMON KALOU, the 27-year-old winger who had won the UEFA Champions League Final with English Premier League side FC Chelsea the last time he had appeared on the pitch at the Allianz Arena in southern Germany, salvaged a measure of French pride with a second half goal for OSC Lille.

Germany international midfielder TONI KROOS, who also was not feeling well with the flu and began on the bench as a result, added a sixth goal for Bayern Munich just five minutes after coming on as a substitute in the second half; like Schweinsteiger, the 22-year-old midfielder had also found the back of the net for the Bavarians earlier in the UEFA Champions League this term with a fine strike against CF Valencia.

Bayern Munich striker CLAUDIO PIZARRO, the 34-year-old veteran international who has earned 66 caps and scored 16 goals for Peru, recorded the third-fastest hat trick in the history of the UEFA Champions League with his effort against French side OSC Lille while standing in as a late replacement for a sick teammate; having left Werder Bremen this past summer and returned to Bavaria for a second tour of duty with the record German champions, the evergreen Pizarro now counts 18 goals after 54 European appearances for Bayern Munich in his career.
