Spieltag # 6
0 – WERDER BREMEN
2 – BAYERN MUNICH ————– Luiz Gustavo 81′, Mandzukic 83′
A very tightly-contested but extremely entertaining match was only settled late by a genuine world-class goal and subsequent lighting strike off the counterattack as visiting BAYERN MUNICH defeated WERDER BREMEN in the Bundesliga and maintained its 100% winning ways with a sixth consecutive triumph to open this 2012/13 campaign.
Peru international CLAUDIO PIZARRO, the aging veteran who spent the past four years scoring 62 Bundesliga goals for Werder Bremen before transferring to Bayern Munich for a second tour of duty this past summer, was included in the Startelf for the Bavarians by trainer JUPP HEYNCKES. The 34-year-old striker, who was given a warm pre-match greeting by die Werderaner supporters it shall be noted, also had both the first and last chances of what developed into a great defensive struggle. Pizzaro’s header in the 43rd minute, fortunately for the home side, did not miss by much at all.
LUIZ GUSTAVO had scored a pretty dramatic goal with a 90th minute winner against Vfl Wolfsburg in the second round of the 2011/12 Bundesliga campaign. And the 25-year-old Brazil international midfielder had also found the back of the net a few weeks ago with a fine strike against Vfb Stuttgart. But the sheer world-class quality of this ball from the top of the arc curled up and over the diving Werder Bremen shot-stopper SEBASTIAN MIELITZ and into the left corner of the net by the ambitious Luiz Gustavo was certainly something to behold, though.
Also breathtaking was the pace of the deadly Bayern Munich counterattack following an unsuccessful Werder Bremen corner kick. An off and running France international winger FRANCK RIBERY played a lovely ball down the left wing for streaking Switzerland international midfielder XHERDAN SHAQIRI, the little tank who immediately played a splendid ball across the box for his fellow second half substitute. A sixth strike in the Bundesliga already this term from productive Croatia international striker MARIO MANDZUKIC, who scored 12 goals in 32 games for Vfl Wolfsburg all of last season, sealed the deal for the in-form record German champions.
Bayern Munich equaled the club record to begin a season by winning its ninth consecutive match in all compeitions on the trot.
