Germany Take Turkey, Remain Perfect For Europe

Germany captain and left back PHILIPP LAHM (16) of Bayern Munich advances while shielding the ball from Turkey skipper and winger HAMIT ALTINTOP of La Liga giant Real Madrid, who spent four seasons as Lahm’s teammate in Bavaria before departing for Spain on a free transfer this past summer, during the 2012 UEFA European Championships qualification match at the Turkish Telekom Arena in Istanbul.

3 – GERMANY ———— Gomez 35′, Mueller 66′, Schweinsteiger pen 86′

A fine save early followed up by two long clearances from the same goalkeeper propelled visiting GERMANY to a convincing 3-1 triumph over TURKEY and a ninth consecutive victory in Group A qualification matches for the 2012 UEFA European Championships to be held this summer.

Turkey captain HAMIT ALTINTOP of Spanish La Liga giant Real Madrid might have given the hosts a fast start after breaking into the clear but was thwarted by the sharp reflexes of Germany World Cup goalkeeper MANUEL NEUER in the fifth minute. The Bayern Munich shot-stopper, currently on a record-setting run in domestic competition, also later set up the first goal of the game with an impressive piece of distribution. After making a save at the near post on the left, Neuer hurled a mighty throw to his Bundesliga teammate and Germany World Cup winger THOMAS MUELLER in midfield on the right.

A long, quick ball from Mueller found Germany international striker MARIO GOMEZ over on the left wing. After skillfully settling, the Bayern Munich striker completely torched Turkey defender SERVET CETIN of hometown SK Galatasaray Istanbul to advance and lash a left-footer just inside the far post with roughly ten minutes remaining in the first half. The strike mark a 20th international goal for Gomez, currently leading the Bundesliga in scoring once again this season, on his 48th career appearance for Germany.

Germany World Cup goalkeeper MANUEL NEUER (1) of Bayern Munich, who currently has a shutout streak of consecutive eleven games going in all club competitions, robs Turkey winger HAMIT ALTINTOP (6) of Spanish side Real Madrid with a splendid reaction save early in the match during the Euro 2012 qualifier at the Telekom Arena in Istanbul.

Neuer was directly involved in the second goal of the game a little over twenty minutes after the halftime break, as well. Far off his line and actually out of his box, the 25-year-old goalkeeper boomed a long ball down the left wing and found little 19-year-old midfielder MARIO GOETZE of defending Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich. The newest rising star in German football turned the hapless defender Cetin inside out and played a square ball across the top of the area that was intelligently allowed to run for the on-rushing Mueller, who smashed a low drive past Turkey goalkeeper VOLKAN DEMIREL of SK Fenerbahce Istanbul to score his eight career goal for Germany in the 66th minute.

Turkey attempted to stage a late rally with less than a dozen minutes to go and scored a goal via SK Galatasaray Istanbul midfielder HAKAN BALTA. But the Turks gave that back shortly thereafter by fouling Mueller, who ended up involved in all three German goals for the evening, in the penalty area with less than five minutes to play. Bayern Munich midfielder BASTIAN SCHWEINSTEIGER, making his 90th appearance for the national football team of Germany in Istanbul, scored from the spot and celebrated the occasion with his 23rd career international goal.

And so Germany ran its all-time record against Turkey to 14 wins and three ties from 20 international matches while remaining perfect on the road to Euro 2012.
