In a match staged to benefit the club’s ailing finances, the home side bravely stayed with the visitor’s high-profile Startelf for the first half but a pair of youthful players off the bench provided the goals German Rekordmeister BAYERN MUNICH needed to dispatch 3.Bundesliga side FC CARL ZEISS JENA 2-0 as both teams continued preparations for the upcoming season.

The Bavarians fielded the regular first team and, predictably, dominated the first half with Holland World Cup winger ARJEN ROBBEN having a shot in just the sixth minute. But Bayern Munich could do no better than France World Cup winger FRANCK RIBERY’s effort off the crossbar in the 36th minute. Germany international striker MARIO GOMEZ, the Bundesliga’s top scorer with 28 goals last season, was effectively kept in check by the FC Carl Zeiss Jena defense before being taken off at the break.

Ribery was, however, instrumental in the first goal of the game and delivered a precise pass for 19-year-old Austria international winger DAVID ALABA, the halftime replacement for Robben who had a tremendous match against the Trentino Regional XI in the Italian Alps, to run onto and slip past FC Carl Zeiss Jena goalkeeper TINO BERBIG in the 54th minute.

One-time FC Carl Zeiss Jena striker NILS PETERSEN, the 22-year-old summer signing from Energie Cottbus who topped the German second division with 25 goals last season, put the issue to bed for Bayern Munich after knocking home a loose ball from close quarters off a corner kick with twenty minutes to play.

Former Germany U-21 international striker NILS PETERSEN (9) of visiting Bayern Munich had a triumphant return to his old stomping grounds at the Ernst Abbe Sportfeld and produced a 70th minute goal at the expense of his former paymasters from FC Carl Zeiss Jena in the 70th minute; Petersen, whom the Bavarian side recently purchased from 2.Bundesliga club Energie Cottbus in exchange for 2.8 million Euros, ran his record to five goals in three Testspiele for Bayern Munich this summer.

Germany World Cup goalkeeper MANUEL NEUER (1) uses his head to calmly deal with a ball at the back for Bayern Munich against FC Carl Zeiss Jena at the Ernst Abbe Sportfeld in Thuringia; the Bavarians’ 18.0 million Euro summer acquisition from Schalke 04 Gelsenkirchen nearly scored a spectacular second half goal with a nearly full-field length kick which was only just narrowly tipped over the bar for a corner by FC Carl Zeiss Jena’s substitute goalkeeper Patrick Siefkes.

Considering this match was staged specifically to help boost the fortunes of local club FC CARL ZEISS JENA, the sell-out crowd of 12,641 that showed up at the Ernst Abbe Sportfeld in Thuringia to watch famous Bavarian club FC Bayern Munich certainly was a satisfying result for all parties involved.

Brazil international defender RAFINHA, the 25-year-old former Schalke 04 Gelsenkirchen defender who was snapped up from Italian Serie A side CFC Genoa for the transfer fee of 5.5 million Euros this summer, started his third consecutive game at right back for Bayern Munich and in-coming trainer Jupp Heynckes against FC Carl Zeiss Jena at the tiny Ernst Abbe Sportfeld in Thuringia.
