PAUL several years ago; indeed, FC St. Pauli were promoted to the top flight of German football for the 2001-02 campaign but returned quickly to the 2.Bundesliga. (Marcus Brandt/DDP)

The Polizei are certain to be all present and accounted for when host SV HAMBURG collide with fierce, cross-town arch-rival FC ST. PAULI (a.k.a. FC Che Guevara) in the Bundesliga at the Volksparkstadion for the 131st Hamburg Stadtderby on Sunday.

FC Che Guevara are, as is usually the case, desperate to avoid immediate demotion to the 2.Bundesliga; the disco dancer masquerading as a football trainer HOLGER STANISLAWSKI’s club are one of a trio of clubs just three points away from the dreaded relegation zone.

Hamburg SV have always owned infamous FC St. Pauli, who have won just 23 of the 130 prior intra-city contests between the two sides to date. As of late, die Rothosen have not been beaten by FC Che Guevara in 14 consecutive matches. The last victory by the traditional underdog in this tie came when FC St. Pauli shutout Hamburg SV 2-0 in September of 1977 at the Volksparkstadion.

Only 1.FC Koeln have scored fewer goals in the Bundesliga than FC Che Guevara, who have managed to find the back of the net exactly 23 times in 20 matches so far this season. On the road, FC St. Pauli have produced a league-low eight goals. Not the best recipe, then, for survival in the German top flight.

SV Hamburg, meanwhile, have a legitmate shot at a place in Europe for next season but must find a way to score more consistently, themselves; all three points against the intra-city adversary is imperative.

Cuban dictator FIDEL CASTRO will be watching on satellite— and cheering for FC Che Guevara.
