With the arrival of Christmas less than a week away, Real Madrid goalkeeper IKER CASILLAS was presented with his FIFA GOLDEN GLOVE AWARD earned at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa this past summer prior to the start of the La Liga match with FC Sevilla at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

The 29-year-old shot-stopper was an extremely key ingredient to Spain’s side and allowed just two goals in seven matches throughout the tournament. Casillas, in fact, posted consecutive clean sheets in Espana’s final four games while making several critical saves all along the way to the World Cup title. Officially, the Real Madrid goalkeeper finished tied for fourth among all goalkeepers with a save percentage of 89.47 % (17 saves) in South Africa.

Casillas, who currently has 116 caps for his country and is second behind only fellow World Cup goalkeeper ANDONI ZUBIZARETTA, the former Athletic Bilbao, FC Barcelona and CF Valencia veteran, on the all time list for Spain, will always be remembered by football historians for the signature save in the second half against ARJEN ROBBEN and the NETHERLANDS in the 2010 South Africa Final.

It would be hard for any self-respecting international footballer to ask for a better opportunity to be a late-game, World Cup Final hero and still maintain some semblance of a straight face.

The Dutchman Robben received the pass and broke clear into the box with only the Spanish goalkeeper to beat. The Bayern Munich winger rightly lifted his head and had plenty of time and space to measure his shot. Only to have Casillas, already committed to going the wrong way, stick out his foot and just clip the ball with his heel.

Spain, of course, went on to defeat the Netherlands in extra time and win the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
