A goal for each team on either side of the halftime whistle resulted in a 1-1 draw for visiting Scottish side GLASGOW RANGERS and Turkish host KD BURSASPOR on the final day of play in Group C of the UEFA Champions League.

Both contestants had already been eliminated from the knockout round of the UEFA Champions League entering the match in Turkey. But, third place in the group and the resulting place in this spring’s UEFA Europa League was completely up for grabs. The situation was rather clear for all — Rangers required only a draw while Bursaspor, playing at home, needed to win outright.

Scotland international striker KENNY MILLER ended his European futility and finally scored a goal for Glasgow Rangers in the UEFA Champions League.

The 30-year-old striker, who has scored 18 times in 14 Scottish Premier League games this season, selected a fine time to strike for his first goal in eleven UEFA Champions League contests for Rangers since transferring from Derby County for 2.0 million English pounds in June of 2008; Miller had not scored in Europe’s premier competition since the 2006-07 season while suiting up for Glasgow Celtic.

In the meantime, for all the possession and chances created, Bursaspor had a miserable time getting their shots on target and testing Rangers’ Scotland international goalkeeper ALLAN MCGREGOR.

As the clock ticked down towards ten minutes to go, Bursaspor did equalize from the effort of SERCAN YILDIRIM but it was not enough to save the defending Turkish champions from a fate of no European football this spring.

(Yildirim might have been better served, instead of hot-dogging at the corner flag in the corner, to retrieve the ball out of the net and get the game re-started as soon as possible…)
