It is official.
With two games to go before the annual Winterpause, surging BORUSSIA DORTMUND cannot be caught and will be crowned unofficial Herbstmeister for 2010.
A goal on either side of the halftime break allowed BORUSSIA DORTMUND to collect a comfortable 2-0 away win against 1.FC Nuremberg and nab the mythical German fall championship.
Germany international MATS HUMMELS scored his second goal in as many matches to give Borussia Dortmund a 1-0 in the 23rd minute. The 22-year-old defender, who scored during the week against Ukranian side FC Karpaty Lviv in the UEFA Europa League, stayed onside while skirting the end of the 1.FC Nuremberg defense to access a long free kick played into the box. Hummels’ header beat 1.FC Nuremberg’s diving goalkeeper RAPHAEL SCHAEFER and hit the side netting for the former Bayern Munich defender’s third goal this season.
Poland international striker ROBERT LEWANDOWSKI, on his first career Bundesliga start in the absence of injured Paraguay World Cup striker and die Schwarzgelben’s top Torjaeger LUCAS BARRIOS, added a second goal for Borussia Dortmund with less than two minutes remaining.
Showing off the talents of a true predator, Lewandowski, who also scored in midweek versus FC Karpaty Lviv, controlled a loose ball in the box and turned to snap a low, far-post shot past Schaefer for his fifth Bundesliga goal and sixth of the season in all competitions for Borussia Dortmund.
