BUNDESLIGA
Spieltag # 11
11/6/2010

3 – Bor. Moenchengladbach —— Herrmann 5′, Reus 56′, De Camargo 60′
3 – Bayern Munich ——————– Gomez 11′, Schweinsteiger 40′, Lahm 84′

A goal six minutes from full time spared the blushes of the defending Bundesliga champions as visiting BAYERN MUNICH scraped a 3-3 draw in a back and forth affair with basement-dwellers BORUSSIA MOENCHENGLADBACH to drop still even more points on the domestic front this season.

Germany World Cup fullback PHILIPP LAHM scored his first goal of the season in the 84th minute to salvage a point and avoid complete Blamage (disgrace) for Bayern Munich; after the match, the soon-to-be 27-year-old (Nov 11) with 75 caps for his country lamented the Bavarians have dropped so many points to start the new campaign that, for the defending Bundesliga champions, the title chase may already be over.

“We are so many points behind we cannot afford to drop more, and we have dropped some here,” blasted the Bayern Munich defender.

“We lost the ball too easily at the start of the second half and this is not the first time this has happened. It also happened against (Romanian club CFR) Cluj when we just slept for the first 15 minutes of the second half. The same thing happened today, only this time we have been punished.”

The fact of the matter is, the Bavarians, by all rights, should have been much further ahead at the sound of the halftime whistle.

After falling behind in the first five minutes from a goal by 19-year-old midfielder Borussia Moenchengladbach PATRICK HERRMANN, the visitors stormed back to take complete control. A pair of reserves for Germany at the 2010 World Cup, midfielder TONI KROOS and striker MARIO GOMEZ, combined to equalize within six minutes and a starter for Germany in South Africa, BASTIAN SCHWEINSTEIGER, sent Bayern Munich to the lead five minutes before the break. However, the defending Bundesliga champions were twice denied by the proverbial woodwork.

Which would not come back to haunt Bayern Munich so much as the missed penalty kick by Schweinsteiger, who has been in such excellent scoring form with six goals in all competitions already this season, after the Bavarians had gone ahead just before halftime.
