A four-goal second half eruption enabled defending English Premier League champion FC CHELSEA to overwhelm visiting Russian side FC SPARTAK MOSCOW 4-1 and keep a 100% record in Group F of the UEFA Champions League.

France World Cup striker NICOLAS ANELKA opened for the scoring for Chelsea four minutes into the second half from a sharp angle after running onto a diagonal pass into the box from Ivory Coast World Cup forward SALOMON KALOU. Truth be told, Spartak Moscow’s Ukraine international goalkeeper ANDREI DIKAN did not need to come charging off his line so wildy. But Anelka was more than happy to score for the fourth consecutive match in the UEFA Champions League this season.

The 31-year-old Frenchman now leads the London club with both five goals in the Champions League and 10 goals in all competitions this season.

Ivory Coast World Cup striker DIDIER DROGBA, who led both Chelsea and the entire English top flight with 29 Premier League goals last season, scored from the penalty spot in the 62nd minute after he was brought down just inside the box by Spartak Moscow defender EVGENY MAKEEV.

Drogba, who is one behind Malouda with six goals in the Premiership so far for the Blues, netted his first goal in Europe this season with the penalty against Spartak Moscow.

Serbia World Cup defender BRANISLAV IVANOVIC, whose late header completed Chelsea’s a come-from-behind victory over Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park last weekend, ended all meaningul resitance for Spartak Moscow just four minutes after Drogba’s penalty by heading home a free kick curled in from the Ivory Coast World Cup striker on the right.

Ivanovic added a second goal for Chelsea following a scramble in injury time.

The fourth consecutive victory at the group stage books Chelsea’s place in the knockout round of sixteen for the this year’s UEFA Champions League competition.
