Three goals from Spanish imports, including a third minute strike to get the crowd going early, powered improving Schalke 04 Gelsenkirchen to an easy 3-1 victory over visiting Israeli squad FC Hapoel Tel Aviv in Group B of the UEFA Champions League.

Spain international striker RAUL BLANCO GONZALEZ, the former Real Madrid superstar and all-time leading goal-scorer in the history of the UEFA Champions League, hit a brace in what was easily his best performance thus far in the colors of his new German employers, Schalke 04 Gelsenkirchen.

The 33-year-old striker, off to somewhat of a slow start with just one goal in eight Bundesliga games thus far this season, shot Schalke 04 Gelsenkirchen in front after a clever dummy from Holland World Cup striker KLAUS-JAN HUNTELAAR with a long pass from Spanish midfielder JOSE MANUEL JURADO.

The former Real Madrid and AC Milan striker Huntelaar, in spite of having an eight game goal-scoring streak for both the Netherlands and Schalke 04 snapped against FC Hapoel Tel Aviv, was a constant threat throughout the game for the Gelsenkirchen club and had several shots at goal, himself.

Only the work of Nigeria World Cup goalkeeper VINCENT ENYEAMA between the sticks for FC Hapoel Tel Aviv prevented an even larger margin of victory by Schalke 04, who were listed as having enjoyed an 18-4 advantage in shots-at-goal on the evening by the official website of the UEFA Champions League.

The acrobatic 28-year-old shot stopper, who has been with FC Hapoel Tel Aviv since 2007, made seven saves against Schalke 04.

Croatia international midfielder IGOR RAKITIC, a second half substitute, played a handsome one-two with Huntelaar on the left before providing the low cross for Raul to steer past a helpless Enyeama and double Schalke 04’s margin in the 58th minute.

Raul, who joined Schalke 04 this summer on a free transfer after spending his entire career with Real Madrid, raised his record total in the UEFA Champions League to 68 goals.

Jurado, the former Spain U-21 international who began his career at Real Madrid and arrived in Gelsenkirchen this summer via Atletico Madrid, scored a third goal for Schalke 04 with a spectacular shot from the edge of the area on the left which curled and banked in off the upper right hand post to leave Enyeama no chance in the 68th minute.

Israel international striker ITAY SHECHTER earned a measure of respect for FC Hapoel Tel Aviv with his second goal in the UEFA Champions League this season to spoil the shutout bid of Schalke 04’s Germany World Cup goalkeeper MANUEL NEUER three minutes into injury time.

With a second consecutive success in the UEFA Champions League, Schalke 04 Gelsenkirchen, last season’s Bundesliga runners-up who have struggled thus far domestically to start the new year, now occupy second place in Group B behind French side Olympique Lyon, who maintain a 100% record after three rounds.
