An seventh minute goal and solid defending earned MANCHESTER UNITED a 1-0 victory over visiting Turkish side KD BURSASPOR and top spot in Group C of the UEFA Champions League.

Portugal international winger NANI, who missed the 2010 World Cup in South Africa with a shoulder injury, scored the only goal of the game for Manchester United after receiving a pass from Scotland international midfielder DARREN FLETCHER and making a strong move to avoid a would-be tackler.

The 23-year-old in-form Portuguese player, who scored four goals in 23 English Premier League games last season but already has three goals in eight EPL matches this term, added his first goal in year’s UEFA Champions League with a curling left-footed drive from well outside the area.

Poland international TOMASZ KUSZCZAK got the start between the sticks for Manchester United against the defending Turkish champions in place of 39-year-old veteran Holland international EDWIN VAN DER SAR, whose gaffe allowed a tying goal by West Bromwich Albion in the Premiership last Sunday.

The 28-year-old Pole posted his second shutout in as many Champions League appearances this season, but, as evidence of Manchester United’s thorough control of the tie, was not forced into a save by the visiting side until Sweden international midfielder GUSTAV SVENSSON, who left IFK Goteborg to for KD Bursaspor the first day of this past September, put a shot on target in the 90th minute.

Manchester United manager SIR ALEX FERGUSON left Bulgaria international striker DIMITAR BERBATOV, who leads the Red Devils with six goals in the Premier League, on the bench against KD Bursaspor.
