UEFA Champions League
Group Stage
9/29/2010

4 – Inter Milan (ITA) ————– Eto’o 21′, 27′, 81′, Sneijder 34′
0 – Werder Bremen (GER)

Cameroon World Cup striker SAMUEL ETO’O single-handedly wrecked an injury-hit, visiting Bundelsiga club WERDER BREMEN with a hat trick as Italian Serie A side rolled to a 4-0 victory in Group A of the UEFA Champions League.

Holland World Cup midfielder WESLEY SNEIJDER added a goal for Inter Milan, off an assist from Eto’o, with a clever chip over Germany international goalkeeper TIM WIESE, who had himself a bit of a tough evening in the Werder Bremen net.

Late in the match, the Dutchman Sneijder enabled Eto’o to complete his evening with a precision thru ball for the Cameroonian to collect and easily round the keeper Wiese.

Three key veteran players who started the Nordderby against SV Hamburg over the weekend — Peru international striker CLAUDIO PIZARRO, Germany international midfielder TORSTEN FRINGS and Germany defender CLEMENS FRITZ — missed the match for Werder Bremen due to injury.

About the only thing that went wrong on the night for Inter Milan revolved around the replacement of Brazil World Cup goalkeeper JULIO CESAR, who did not appear for the second half on account of a thigh injury and was replaced by 35-year-old veteran LUCA CASTELLAZZI, a summer signing from Sampdoria of Genoa, as well as that of Brazil World Cup defender LUCIO, who was also injured.

Lucio, who spent seven and a half years with Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga before a move to Inter Milan to start last season, was taken off with a pulled groin just past the hour mark in favor of DAVIDE SANTON, a 19-year-old who has already won five caps for Italy.

Austria international attacker MARKO ARNAUTOVIC had a late bid for Werder Bremen to break the shutout but was denied by Castellazzi.
