Match Day # 3
1 – Real Sociedad ————- Tamudo 62′
2 – Real Madrid ————— Di Maria 51′, Pepe 74′
A fortuitous deflection with a late free kick enabled visiting REAL MADRID to defeat a stubborn REAL SOCIEDAD 2-1 and allowed the capital club to temporarily take possession of first place in Spain’s Primera Division.
Argentina World Cup midfielder ANGEL DI MARIA, whom Real Madrid paid Portuguese club Benfica Lisbon 25.0 million Euros with another 11.0 million at stake from incentives this summer, scored his first-ever goal for Los Blanocs with a curling shot shortly after the halftime break.
Real Sociedad struck back, however, in the 62nd minute when Spain international striker RAUL TAMUDO, an off-season arrival from RCD Espanyol Barcelona, scored his second goal in as many games for his new club following a free kick from French midfielder ANTOINE GRIEZMANN.
It was the free kick of Portugal World Cup attacker CRISTIANO RONALDO that settled the issue for Real Madrid after taking a deflection off of Portugal World Cup defender PEPE and leaving Chile World Cup goalkeeper CLAUDIO BRAVO, who had a solid contest with eight saves, no chance between the sticks for Real Sociedad.
NOTE — Real Madrid’s second goal was later officially credited to PEPE.
