Germany international striker PATRICK HELMES struck for a hat trick as BAYER LEVERKUSEN strolled past visiting Norwegian side BK ROSENBORG TRONDHEIM 4-0 in the opening round of Group B play in the UEFA Europa League.
Though veteran Germany international midfielder MICHAEL BALLACK and Brazilian midfielder RENATO AUGUSTO remain sidelined by injuries, Bayer Leverkusen were still able to rest the likes of Czech Republic international defender MICHAL KADLEC, Chile World Cup midfielder ARTURO VIDAL and Germany World Cup striker STEFAN KIESSLING.
BK Rosenborg Trondheim, meanwhile, started veteran Norway international striker STEFFEN IVERSEN (78 caps, 21 goals) up front; the 33-year-old spent seven seasons at White Hart Lane once upon a time, scoring 41 goals in 138 league games for Tottenham Hotspur.
