Perhaps others may have been left in awe of the occasion…
Including the start for FK Austria Vienna on Sunday, 26-year-old reserve goalkeeper ROBERT ALMER still has not played enough league matches in his career so far to constitute one full season’s worth of games between the sticks in Austria’s top flight.
What’s more, struggling FK Austria Vienna had not posted a victory on their last four outings in the Bundesliga, to speak nothing of the Violets’ recent disappointing elimination from the UEFA Europa League competition at the hands of Greek side FC Aris Thessaloniki.
And, the opponent would be none other than intra-city rival, SK Rapid Vienna, on no less an occasion than the 294th edition of the Austrian capital city derby at the Gerhard Hanappi Stadion, a site where FK Austria Vienna had not won since May of 2004.
Almer, who had not appeared in the Bundesliga since last February, was, apparently, unfazed and proceeded to fashion a clean sheet as the Violets defeated their arch-nemesis, the Green-Whites, in the always-important Vienna derby.
“It was no problem at all for me. I know this situation, nevertheless, well already and can deal with it accordingly,” Almer stated in a post-match article appearing at FK Austria Vienna’s official website (www.fk-austria.at)
