Match Day # 2
1 – Real Madrid —————- Carvalho 48′
0 – Osasuna Pamplona
Portugal World Cup defender RICARDO CARVALHO scored in the third minute of the second half to propel REAL MADRID to a victory over visiting OSASUNA PAMPLONA by the mininum scoreline in the second round of play in Spain’s Primera Division.
Fitting, then, that the match-winner for new manager JOSE MOURINHO’s first triumph at Real Madrid comes from not just from one of the renowned coach’s former charges with FC Chelsea in England, but a fellow Portuguese national, as well.
The 32-year-old veteran Carvalho, who had been with Chelsea in the Premiership since the start of the 2004-05 season, left London this summer to sign with Real Madrid for a reported fee of 6.7 million English pounds.
Real Madrid, with Germany World Cup midfielder MESUT OEZIL creating several good opportunities on his first start in La Liga, thoroughly controlled the match and might have scored more if not for the fine work of Osasuna goalkeeper RICARDO, the one-time Manchester United reserve shot-stopper.
