The clash of Champions League contestants on the eve of the start of Group Stage play for the UEFA tournament ends in a stalemate as visiting WERDER BREMEN draw 0-0 with BAYERN MUNICH in the third round of the Bundesliga season.

A second consecutive game without a goal for Dutch coach LOUIS VAN GAAL’s charges as the defending Bundesliga champions continue to suffer from sand in the gearbox to start the new campaign; MIROSLAV KLOSE, scorer of three goals in two games for the German national team in the last week, was used as an attacking midfielder with Croatia international IVICA OLIC deployed as the solitary striker up front for Bayern Munich.

Werder Bremen, meanwhile, left their leading goal-scorer the past two years, ex-Bayern Munich man and Peru international CLAUDIO PIZARRO, on the bench in favor of Austria international striker MARKO ARNAUTOVIC. Rest for the veteran then and reward for the 21-year-old off-season signing from Dutch club Twente Enschede. Arnautovic, who spent last year on loan with Inter Milan in Italy but got exactly three Serie A games all season, entered having collected two goals and an assist in his first two Bundesliga contests for Werder Bremen.

The veteran France international defender and transfer deadline day arrival from English Premier League side FC Arsenal, MIKAEL SILVESTRE, and the 7.5 million Euro acquisition from Brazilian club FC Santos, 23-year-old midfielder WESLEY, made their Bundesliga debuts for Werder Bremen against Bayern Munich.
