A pair of early goals from World Cup striker KLAAS-JAN HUNTELAAR seemed to signal the start of a rout but, in the end, was really just enough to see HOLLAND safely past visiting FINLAND 2-1 in the Group E qualification match for the 2012 European Championships.

Huntelaar, the pricey, late summer acquisition of German side Schalke 04 Gelsenkirchen, has now scored five goals in the two Euro 2012 qualifiers for Holland and, overall, 21 goals in 38 international games.

Shortly after falling behind a pair, Finland pulled a goal back when striker MIKAEL FORSSELL of German club SV Hannover 96 headed home the corner kick of defender PETRI PASANEN, who also plays his professional football in the Bundesliga, with SV Werder Bremen.

Finland fielded four players in the starting XI who ply their trade in the Netherlands’ top flight and might have had a share of the points, but the late header of midfielder TIM SPARV, a member of Dutch Eredivisie side FC Groningen, was saved by Dutch World Cup goalkeeper MAARTEN STEKELENBURG of Ajax Amsterdam.
