Van Nistelrooy – Nice In North Germany

34-year-old Dutch international striker RUUD VAN NISTELROOY netted the winning goal for SV Hamburg for a second consecutive week on the second match day of the 2010-11 Bundesliga season.

Beginning in his 18th season of European professional football, having played for six clubs in four different countries, RUUD VAN NISTELROOY can now accurately fit the description of “veteran journeyman”.

It is perhaps premature, however, to pronounce the Holland international striker as “over the hill”.

Van Nistelrooy, who earned 64 caps (33 goals) for the Netherlands, scored the go-ahead goal in 81st minute at the Commerzbank-Arena on Saturday as SV Hamburg handed host Eintract Frankfurt a 3-1 defeat to sustain their 100% record in the Bundesliga so far this young season.

Last week at the Imtech Arena in northern Germany, the veteran Dutchman delievered the double to power SV Hamburg to a surprising 2-1 victory over visiting Schalke 04 Gelsenkirchen, the Bundesliga runners-up from last term.

In doing so, van Nistelrooy completely overshadowed his former frontline colleague with Real Madrid in La Liga, RAUL Gonzalez Blanco, the all-time leading goal-scorer for the national team of Spain and a high-profile signing for Schalke 04 this summer.

Van Nistelrooy started the 2010-11 season well with three goals as SV Hamburg handled Torgelower SV Greif 5-1 in the first round of the Deutscher Fussball Bund Pokal (German Cup).
