Serbian side PARTIZAN BELGRADE triumphed 3-2 on penalties over host club RSC ANDERLECHT to conclude the second leg of the UEFA Champions League playoff tie.
Striker CLEO sent the visitors to the lead in the 15th minute with a clever header after a cross from IVICA ILIEV, the 30-year old midfielder returning to Partizan Belgrade after six seasons abroad in Italy, Greece, Germany and Israel.
The 25-year-old Brazilian bagged a second for Partizan Belgrade, his third of the playoff tie, not long into the second half after chesting down a long cross from substitute midfielder ALEKSANDAR DAVIDOV.
RSC Anderlecht, who held a commanding 22-8 edge in shots-at-goal for the game, did fight back to square the score on aggregate and away goals.
Seventeen-year-old striker ROMELU LUKAKU headed home the cross of Czech Republic international midfielder JAN POLAK; seven minutes later, Belgium international midfielder GUILLAUME GILLET leveled the match with a long-range, dipping drive.
Extra time produced nothing and so on to penalties the two teams went.
Belgium international goalkeeper SILVIO PROTO pulled off two saves in the shootout for RSC Anderlecht — but the two Argentinians, forward MATIAS SUAREZ and midfielder LUCAS BIGLIA, as well as Morocco international winger MBARK BOUSSOUFA, the three-time Belgian Footballer of the Year, all blasted their spot kicks over the crossbar.
