Playoff round, first leg

Czech Republic international defender MICHAL KADLEC hit a double to help BAYER 04 LEVERKUSEN down visiting Ukranian side SC TAVRIYA SYMEFEROPOL 3-0 in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League playoff tie.
Kadlec sent the home side ahead in the very first minute of the match with a left-footed seeing-eye shot from well outside the area after veteran SC Tavriya goalkeeper VITALI POSTRANSKY had punched clear a ball from a corner; the 25-year-old former Sparta Prague man scored his second goal less than ten minutes from time.
Germany international midfield star MICHAEL BALLACK made his competitive debut for Bayer Leverkusen as a second half substitute and marked the occasion with a penalty in injury time; Ballack easily dispatched his spot kick after Germany World Cup striker STEFAN KIESSLING, the second-leading scorer in the Bundesliga last season with 21 goals, was felled in the box.
