Playoff round, first leg
1 – SK Rapid Vienna (AUT) ——— Nuhiu 32′
1 – FC Aston Villa (ENG) ————- Bannan 12′
Undermanned FC ASTON VILLA left Austria with result they can live with following the 1-1 draw with SV RAPID VIENNA in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League playoff round.
Scotland U-21 international midfielder BARRY BANNAN gave the visitors a bright start after a fine run down the right flank by MARC ALBRIGHTON; striker ADTHE NUHIU, denied early on by an accrobatic save from Aston Villa’s United States international goalkeeper BRAD GUZAN, equalized with a header after a cross from Rapid Vienna’s German captain STEFAN HOFMANN twenty minutes later.
Rapid Vienna played without their top goal-scorer, Croatia international striker NIKICA JELAVIC, who was in the midst of completing his transfer to Scottish giants Glasgow Rangers for 4.0 million English pounds and refused to play in the match with Aston Villa.
