MANCHESTER CITY have announced closure of the long-anticipated deal to bring newly-capped Italy international striker MARIO BALOTELLI to the Eastlands in a transaction that will reportedly net five-time defending Italian Serie A champion and reigning European Cup holders INTER MILAN 24.0 million English pounds.
The 21-year-old son of Ghanaian immigrants, who previously played under Manchester City’s current manager ROBERTO MANCINI at Inter Milan, signed a five-year contract worth 3.5 million Euros annually plus bonuses according to Italy’s Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper.
Balotelli passed his physical in Manchester on Friday but will still not play in City’s Premier League opener on Saturday opposite Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane in London.
Balotelli becomes the fifth player purchased this off-season by the money bags of Manchester City, who have spent in excess of 107 million English pounds in the process.
In comparison, Man City have sold the contracts of just two players this summer, forward VALERI BOJINOV and defender/wing JAVIER GARRIDO, for a combined total of seven million English pounds.
