An absolute downpour coinciding with the start of proceedings left the pitch in a state less than condusive to flowing, attacking football for either FC JUVENTUS or visiting FC SHAMROCK ROVERS in the UEFA Europa League, third round qualifying, second leg match staged at the home ground of Italian Serie A side FC Modena.
ALAN MANNUS, certainly not the most talented shot-stopper on planet Earth, nevertheless put forth a courageous effort between the sticks for Shamrock Rovers in pulling off several saves; the 28-year-old Northern Ireland international did, however, have a few balls cleared off the line by his defense it should be noted.
Ageless ALESSANDRO DEL PIERO, a second half substitute and all-time leading goal-scorer for The Old Lady (La Vecchia Signora), settled the matter for the night with a trademark free kick in the 74th minute; for the 35-year-old Italy international, the long-range effort which dipped at the last minute to beat Mannus marked a 50th career goal in European competition (118 games) for FC Juventus.
