Considering FC LIVERPOOL have won 18 championships in the top flight of domestic football and have also claimed the highly-coveted European Cup on another five occasions, the last coming in 2005, it is sometimes hard to believe that 20 seasons have gone by since the Reds last lifted the League title in England.

Indeed, Liverpool’s last major trophy was the FA Cup captured in 2006.

Well-traveled as well as highly experienced, English manager ROY HODGSON has arrived at Anfield to see about a return to glory for the Reds.

With Liverpool currently managing massive debt, there have been concerns that many star players, including England’s World Cup captain, STEVEN GERRARD, and Spain’s World Cup champion forward, FERNANDO TORRES, would seek to leave the club this summer.

Things seemed to have settled somewhat, particularly with the arrival of England World Cup winger JOE COLE on a free transfer from FC Chelsea; top goal-scorer Torres, once thought certain to headed in the opposite direction to sign with Chelsea, apparently has decided to think things over.

It is a fact of football life, however, that the Reds will be looking to reduce the wage bill at Anfield, particularly with the new 25-man roster regulations taking effect in the Premier League.

Liverpool have parted company with Israel international midfielder YOSSI BENAYOUN, who was sold to FC Chelsea for 5.5 million English pounds. Also, Spain international winger ALBERT RIERA has been shipped to Greek outfit FC Olympiakos Piraeus for a base payment of 3.3 million English pounds. And, Switzerland international defender PHILIPP DEGEN has been sent out on loan to German side Vfb Stuttgart for the 2010-11 season.
