UEFA Europa League
third round qualifying, second leg
2 – Vfb Stuttgart (GER) —— Pogrebnyak 58′, Gebhart 90+3′
2 – FK Molde (NOR) ———– Johansson 41′, Rindaray 49′
The surprising Norwegian club, FK MOLDE, were actually ahead 4-3 on aggregate forty-nine minutes into the second leg of the UEFA Europa League third round qualifying tie with German side VFB STUTTGART before the hosts put it in gear – somewhat.
Swedish international midfielder EMIL JOHANSSON, in his first season of Norwegian football after arriving from IF Hammarby Stockholm earlier in the year, and Norwegian international defender KNUT OLAY RINDAROY, following a fine run through the Stuttgart defense, scored four minutes before and after halftime, respectively, to move FK Molde ahead on aggregate.
Russian international PAVEL POGREBNYAK, who scored six goals in 28 Bundesliga matches last season after signing from Zenit Saint Petersburg, headed Vfb Stuttgart back in front on away goals off of a set piece taken by captain TIMO GEBHART.
Gebhart gave Vfb Stuttgart a draw on the evening with a header three minutes into injury time — not enough for the team performance to avoid the description of “a disgrace” (einer Blamage), as issued by one German publication.
