UEFA Europa League
second round qualifying, second leg
July 22, 2010
0 – NK Siroki Brijeg (BOS/HRZ)
1 – FK Austria Vienna (AUT) —— Junuzovic 80′
Reduced to ten men and rapidly approaching the mark of ten minutes left to play in the match, an early exit from the UEFA Europa League stared visiting FK AUSTRIA VIENNA straight in the face.
A scoreless draw would send NK SIROKI BRIJEG into the third round on the away goals tiebreaker and seemed a very real possiblity after FK Austria Vienna substitute midfielder JULIAN BAUMGARTLINGER was shown the straight red card in the 74th minute.
After all, the Violets had not won an away match in European competiton since defeating Slovakian club MSK Zilina in August of 2005; futility for the next sixteen European road games would follow.
But, Austrian international ZLATKO JUNUZOVIC put an end to that for FK Austria Vienna with a free kick in the 80th minute. Not without a little help, however. The 22-year-old midfielder’s free kick needed a deflection off the head of NK Siroki Brijeg substitute midfielder ANTE PINJUH to beat hometown goalkeeper DEJEAN BANDOVIC.
FK Austria Vienna were also fortunate to have a pair of NK Siroki Brijeg balls rebound off the post over the course of the match.
