UEFA Champions League
second round qualifying, second leg
July 21, 2010
0 – FK Zeljeznicar Sarajevo
1 – FC Hapoel Tel Aviv ——— da Silva 76′
Brazilian defender DOUGLAS DA SILVA scored the lone goal in the second half as the champion of Israel, FC HAPOEL TEL AVIV, downed the current kings of football in Bosnia / Herzegovina, FK ZELJEZNICAR SARAJEVO, at the capital city Grbavica Stadium.
Da Silva, who has already put in six seasons in Israel and is considered to be one of the best defenders in country, was, earlier this summer, thought to be on his way to France to join OSC Lille, who had put in a bid of 2.75 million Euros in return for eighty percent of the Brazilian’s playing contract.
The deal fell through, however, when it came to light that the French Ligue 1 side did not possess the required funds to complete the transaction.
GALIL BEN SHANAN, again substituting for Nigeria World Cup goalkeeper VINCENT ENYEAMA in between the FC Hapoel Tel Aviv sticks, secured a second consecutive clean sheet in the Champions League for this fledgling 2010-11 campaign.
