Appropriately nicknamed “The Cat”, Enyeama has been the Nigeria first choice ever since posting a shutout against England on his only appearance at the 2002 World Cup final tournament staged jointly by Japan and South Korea.

The 27-year-old shot-stopper has been plying his trade in Israel ever since the 2005-06 season, initially having signed for Bnei Yehuda Tel Aviv. After two seasons with the modest Bnei Yehuda team, which included an Israel State Cup Final appearance and qualification for the UEFA Cup tournament, Enyeama transferred to Hapoel Tel Aviv, one of the two traditional domestic giants.

With Hapoel Tel Aviv, Enyeama won the Israel Player of the Season award last year and, this past campaign, did the double with triumphs in both the State Cup and league championship competitions.

Over the past two seasons, Enyeama has reportedly been scouted by clubs from England, Spain and Turkey. Enyeama was even linked with English giant Arsenal at one point but, allegedly, the deal fell through on account of the transfer fee.

The one knock against Enyeama has always been the lack of enormous height, always a preferred physical trait for goalkeepers.

The question now is, was Enyeama’s work in South Africa against the likes of Argentina good enough to earn Israeli outfit Hapoel Tel Aviv another inquiry from a European professional football club as to the Nigerian goalkeeper’s services for this coming season?
