Why FC Barcelona Will Not Be In Munich

========================================================
Spain World Cup striker FERNANDO TORRES (9) of English Premier League club FC Chelsea dribbles around his teammate on Espana’s title-winning team in South Africa, the not-necessarily realiable FC Barcelona netminder VICTOR VALDES, during the final moments of the incredible UEFA Champions League semifinal second leg match at the Camp Nou in Catalonia.
========================================================

For all the crying and wailing done by the club’s supporters in addition to the worldwide Lame Stream Media recently, it does not really take a rocket scientist to figure out just exactly why FC BARCELONA — who currently trail arch-rival Real Madrid by seven points with but three matches to play in the domestic schedule — will not be departing for Munich to defend the coveted and prestigous title it won last season in the 2012 UEFA Champions League Final next month at the Allianz Arena in southern Germany.

As evidenced by the official match statistics from the UEFA Champions League website, itself, the goalkeeping this term from FC Barcelona was, quite simply put, clearly not consistent with the “greatest football team ever” accolades that are routinely bestowed upon the Spanish imposters.

2011/12 UEFA Champions League
thru semifinals (all matches including playoffs)
=================================

83.08% sv pct — 54 saves – 11 goals …… Petr CECH, FC Chelsea
81.82% sv pct — 36 saves —- 8 goals …… Manuel NEUER, Bayern Munich
78.57% sv pct — 33 saves —- 9 goals …… Iker CASILLAS, Real Madrid
47.37% sv pct —– 9 saves – 10 goals …… Victor VALDES, FC Barcelona

NOTES … Real Madrid reserve goalkeeper Antonio ADAN made one appearance against Ajax Amsterdam in the Netherlands and was credited with eight saves while earning a clean sheet. FC Barcelona cover Jose Manuel PINTO got a game against visiting FC BATE Borisov of Belarus but did not have to stop a shot. Bayern Munich’s back-up netminder Hans-Joerg BUTT had a solitary outing opposite Manchester City in England and registered six saves while conceding a pair of goals (75.0% save percentage).

========================================================

========================================================
Spain international FERNANDO TORRES had fired just four goals in 42 Premier League matches since being bought by FC Chelsea from FC Liverpool for the massive transfer fee of 50.0 million English pounds (about 61.3 million Euros) in January of 2011 heading into the UEFA Champions League semifinal second leg. But the 28-year-old striker went a considerable way towards justifying his expensive purchase all by scoring a late insurance goal on native soil against mighty FC Barcelona at Camp Nou. Suitably inspired, Torres promptly went out and scored three goals for FC Chelsea in the Blues’ big 6-1 victory over London intra-city adversary Queens Park Rangers at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
========================================================

Football is about far more than just fancy passing and looking pretty for supporters with lots of time in possession. Staunch goalkeeping and rock-solid defense have always been an integral as well as honorable part of Pele’s Beautiful Game. As it should be.

Messi Macht Keinen Eindruck Auf Mich

========================================================
Argentinien Laenderspieler LIONEL MESSI, der keine Tore gegen Deutschland in Sued Afrika geschossen hat, bekommt sein Geschenk von Bayer Leverkusen Torheuter BERND LENO waehrend des Champions League Spiels in Spanien.
========================================================

FC Barcelona Trainer JOSEP GUARDIOLA ist verrueckt, wenn man fragt mir!

Warum spielt LIONEL MESSI so spaet gegen Bayer Leverkusen?

1986 European Cup Final : FC Barcelona v Steaua Bucharest – Complete Game Film

========================================================

Continuing with the celebration of the Fall of the Berlin Wall and a resulting quick review of the Romanian Revolution, the blog presents a Christmas present for all — the complete game file of the 1986 European Cup Final matching Romanian army club STEAUA BUCHAREST and Spanish La Liga side FC BARCELONA.

Among the stars on display are influential all-arounder BERND SCHUSTER, the European champion in 1980 with West Germany equally adept at winning the ball with a tackle in defense as prompting the attack with a surgical ball or threatening run; FC Barcelona’s line-up also includes the fancy dribbling skills of Spain international winger FRANCISCO CARRASCO as well as the uncompromising, physical play of defensive midfielder VICTOR MUNOZ, who started all five of quarterfinalist Spain’s matches at the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico.

Speedy international winger MARIUS LACATUS, the eventual match-winner of the 1986 European Cup Final and a future World Cup hero for Romania, headlines the Startelf of Steau Bucharest. Also on hand for the army club in Seville are experienced and classy veteran midfielder LASZLO BOLONI, who collected an impressive 108 caps and 25 goals for the national team of Romania in his career, in addition to skillful Romania international sweeper MIODRAG BELODEDICI. An ethnic Serb, Belodedici, later defected to Yugoslavia and became the first player to win the European Cup with two different clubs after success with Red Star Belgrade in 1991.

Do YOU have the requisite courage to last not just for the scoreless 120 minutes, but the intestinal fortitude to survive a tense penalty kick shootout where the goals do not come cheap?

Duckadam Saved Steaua’s Day

========================================================
Steaua Bucharest goalkeeper HELMUTH DUCKADAM delights after stopping a fourth consecutive spot kick of FC Barcelona to clinch the 1986 European Cup Final on penalties after extra time at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan in Seville, Spain. (Bob Thomas/Getty Images)
========================================================

Although HELMUTH DUCKADAM did earn two caps for Romania early in his career, the 27-year-old goalkeeper was either an experienced nor highly-acclaimed international; still, on the grand and prestigous stage of the 1986 European Cup Final, it was the Steaua Bucharest backstop who outperformed potential headliners such as West Germany international midfielder BERND SCHUSTER, Scotland international striker STEVE ARCHIBALD or any of the cadre of Spain national team players on FC Barcelona.

Even on his own side, the Steaua Bucharest goalkeeper had to cede top billing to others.

Duckadam was called on to make just two saves, the same number as his counterpart for FC Barcelona, the 1986 Spain World Cup deputy URRUTI. However, the Romanian was, by far, the busier of the two goalkeepers in the 1986 European Cup Final at Seville. Duckadam came off his line to catch a few high balls and punched quite a few others to safety, as well.

========================================================

The army goalkeeper was also alert to come out and take the ball at the feet of FC Barcelona’s FRANCISCO CARRASCO after the tricky Spain international winger dribbled through the Steaua Bucharest defense along the goal line late in the game.

As for the penalty kick shootout at the end of the 120-minute scoreless draw between Steaua Bucharest and FC Barcelona, the unsung goalkeeper was absolutely sensational.

Both the West German Schuster, who scored 10 goals in 22 La Liga games during the 1985-86 season, and the Scot Archibald, who had finished third in La Liga with 15 goals during Barcelona’s champioinship season the year before, had been brought off by FC Barcelona’s English manager TERRY VENABLES.

Nevertheless, Duckadam was needed as, one by one, the FC Barcelona kick-takers hit the target; four saves in all, then, a remarkable showing under such pressure-packed circumstances.

One player who did not appear in the 1986 European Cup Final for FC Barcelona was midfielder RAMON CALDERE. The 27-year-old, who would be selected 18 times and score seven goals for the national team of Espana in his career, did make Spain’s squad for the 1986 FIFA World Cup final tournament held in Mexico. After coming off the bench as a substitute against Northern Ireland, the versaitle Caldere started Spain’s final three games at the ’86 World Cup, scoring two goals in the final group stage match against Algeria.

—————————————————————————————————————————

Scotland international forward STEVE ARCHIBALD certainly had two outstanding opportunities to score for FC Barcelona late in the second half of the 1986 European Cup Final against Romanian army club Steaua Bucharest but failed to deliver the goods.

It is interesting to note that FC Barcelona’s English manager TERRY VENABLES spent heavily on two new strikers the summer following the European Cup Final lost on penalty kicks. In what was viewed a surprise, Wales international striker MARK HUGHES arrived from Manchester United for a considerable transfer fee of 2.0 million English pounds. The arrangement had actually been concluded at the beginning of 1986 but was not announced until after the football season had ended.

An even bigger splash resulting from FC Barcelona’s signing of England international striker GARY LINEKER, fresh from his Golden Boot-winning performance at the 1986 FIFA World Cup final tournament in Mexico; a transfer fee of 2.8 million English pounds was paid to FC Everton to secure the services of the 25-year-old striker.

It should be remembered that, after capturing the 1985 Spanish Primera Division title in 1985, FC Barcelona slipped back to second place in La Liga for the 1985-86 season while finishing 11 points (five and a half games) behind dreaded arch-rival Real Madrid.

FC Barcelona 5 – Real Madrid 0

LA LIGA
Matchday # 13
11/29/2010

5 – FC Barcelona ———— Xavi 10′, Pedro 18′, Villa 55′, 58′, Suarez 90+3′
0 – Real Madrid

A pair of goals inside the opening twenty minutes set the tone for the latest El Clasico match as FC BARCELONA absolutely overwhelmed visiting arch-rival REAL MADRID 5-0 in a hot-tempered affair and regained leadership of La Liga in Spain.

To foreshadow what was in store, Argentina World Cup attcker LIONEL MESSI of FC Barcelona curled a ball up and over Real Madrid’s Spain World Cup champion goalkeeper IKER CASILLAS to bounce off the upright less than six minutes in.

Shortly thereafter, FC Barcelona midfielder ANDRES INIESTA, the man who scored in the 116th minute against the Netherlands in the 2010 FIFA Final to give the World Cup to Spain, produced a surgical pass for XAVI, his teammate in South Africa; the playmaker skillfully controlled the ball and chipped Casillas to delight the partisan supporters at Camp Nou.

Argentina World Cup midfielder ANGEL DI MARIA had an immediate opportunity to respond for Real Madrid but blasted his effort straight at FC Barcelona goalkeeper VICTOR VALDES, a reserve on Spain’s championship squad in South Africa.

Another pair of World Cup-winners would leave Di Maria to rue his miss and doubled FC Barcelona’s advantage in the 18th minute when Casillas could only tamely parry the cross of Spain striker DAVID VILLA and South Africa strike-partner PEDRO RODRIGUEZ had only to tap home.

(Jasper Juinen/Getty Images)
========================================================

Real Madrid, who suffered a first — and humiliating — setback in the 20th game of Portuguese manager JOSE MOURINHO’s stewardship, never really looked like recovering; a couple of balls from Messi allowed Villa to net a brace early into the second half to settle the issue once and for all.

As if to rub salt in Real Madrid’s gaping wound, Spain U-21 international striker JEFFREN SUAREZ, who was born in Venezuela, even got into the act and scored his first goal of the season on just his second substitute appearance in La Liga this term for FC Barcelona in time added on.

Argentina World Cup striker GONZALO HIGUAIN failed a late fitness test and missed the match for Real Madrid while France international replacement KARIM BENZEMA proved himself to be invisible in Catalonia.

The most expensive man in all of professional football, Portugal World Cup striker CRISTIANO RONALDO is another Real Madrid attacker not suffering from over-exposure on the highlight package against FC Barcelona.

Barcelona Blow Out No Big Deal

========================================================
After the severe whooping FC BARCELONA administred to proud and mighty REAL MADRID, Spain World Cup champion goalkeeper IKER CASILLAS rests what is most certainly a bruised and battered ass late in the match at Camp Nou in the Catalonia region in northeast Espana. (Josep Lago/AFP/Getty Images)
========================================================

Real Madrid’s first-year Portuguese manager JOSE MOURINHO has stated that Los Blanocs were not humiliated by the monumental 5-0 defeat at the hands of La Liga arch-rival FC Barcelona.

For as respected and admired as the Portuguese manager is, the blog cannot agree.

It was an ass-kicking.

The good news is, to cancel out this result, Real Madrid need simply to win the return La Liga match later in the season at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. Reasonable enough, considering the amount of preparation time and film footage the normally masterful Mourinho will have to make use of. What it will boil down to will be points dropped from the matches against the other teams in the Spanish Primera Division.

Up to this point, Real Madrid have done a better job at that.

Mourinho’s ship merely needs to stay the present course in La Liga and take care of business at home. One result does not a championship season in football make. It was an ass-kicking, though…

Victor Valdes Kung Fu Tackle? – Hong Kong Phooey!

========================================================
Caring FC Barcelona goalkeeper VICTOR VALDES demonstrates genuine compasion for FC Copenhagen’s downed DAME N’DOYE and the Senegalese striker’s tragic inability to adequately pay attention to where he is going on the football pitch during the UEFA Champions League match on November 2 at Parken in the capital city of Denmark. (Bob Strong/Reuters)
========================================================

Where are the supporters of FC St. Pauli of Hamburg when their presence and skill at protest is really required?

The inhumanity and injustice of it all, that is. This embarrassing stain on The Beautiful Game, then. The destruction and victimization.

Hell, any average ordinary lunatic left-wing, fruitcake-whacko Progressive Liberal will do.

Wonderfully comical, then, all the articles about the internet commenting on the supposed “Kung Fu Tackle” by FC Barcelona goalkeeper VICTOR VALDES on FC Copenhagen’s unfortunate Senegalese striker DOME N’DOYE during the recent UEFA Champions League game in Denmark.

First thing that comes to mind would be the one and only legend himself, Number One Super Guy, Hanna-Barbera cartoon character HONG KONG PHOOEY, who actually maintained his anonymity from his true superhero status by posing as a janitor in a police station.

Funny, then, that the core function of the person standing between the sticks for a football match is to keep the sheet clean.

========================================================
ALLEGED “KUNG FU TACKLE” BY FC BARCELONA GOALKEEPER

========================================================

Anyway, not that anybody actually LIKES Spanish goalkeepers or anything — certainly not supporters of underachieving Liverpool (not to mention Arsenal) and particularly ones from the pretenders to the throne FC Barcelona — but someone needs to make a stand.

The video is actually quite clear. The FC Copenhagen striker does become disoriented and has lost his way while looking back over his shoulder in his genuine efforts to track down the ball the ball and score a goal. Meanwhile, for the Spain World Cup champion goalkeeper in the FC Barcelona net, the situation does, indeed, appear menacing.

And, in fact, Valdes does play the ball first.

The esteemed Scottish manager of English Premier League club Manchester United, SIR ALEX FERGUSON, recently stated that, back in his day, a player needed to hit another over the head with a hatchet to earn a booking.

As it should be. Sir Alex knows it. Skirts are surplus to requirements.

Italy World Cup goalkeeper WALTER ZENGA once said that when he concedes a goal, he feels like someone has broken into his house and stolen everything he owns.

With that in mind, the long ball is played to the top of the box and the formidable striker from FC Copenhagen is on the prowl looking to poach a goal. Valdes is just minding his own business. After all, the Spanish goalkeeper has rights to the ball, too, it should be remembered.

What would the average blog reader do if, while sitting at home looking at the clip of N’Dome and Valdes, a burglar suddenly appeared in the house?

What would Hong Kong Phooey do?

Israel’s Aouate Back At It In Barcelona

========================================================
After taking the ball at the feet of FC Barcelona’s Spain World Cup-winning winger PEDRO RODRIGUEZ (17), Israel international goalkeeper DUDU AOUATE of Real Mallorca protects his face with his paw at Camp Nou in the Catalonia region. (Reuters photo)
========================================================

It was in large part on account of the work of Israel international goalkeeper DUDU AOUATE that the much-anticipated managerial debut of the renowned JOSE MOURINHO with Spanish giant Real Madrid ended with an anti-climatic result, at least as far as the capital city club with all its World Cup stars was concerned.

Aouate absorbed every last ball that Los Blancos put on target as modest Balearic Islands side Real Mallorca, despite being outshot heavily, held mighty Real Madrid to a 0-0 draw on the opening day of the 2010-11 La Liga season in Spain.

A similar storyline developed this past weekend when Real Mallorca traveled to the Catalonia region on the Spanish mainland to face the other traditional, bona-fide La Liga heavyweight, FC Barcelona, at the famed Nou Camp stadium.

========================================================

========================================================
Israel international goalkeeper DUDU AOUATE, who joined Real Mallorca from Deportivo La Coruna in late December of 2008 in return for a transfer fee of 1.0 million Euros, exchanges pleasantries with FC Barcelona forward BOJAN KRKIC during the La Liga match at Camp Nou in the Catalonia region of Spain. (Reuters photo)
========================================================

FC Barcelona, featuring plenty of World Cup stars of their own, for the most part, had their way throughout the match and fired no fewer than 27 shots at the Real Mallorca goal.

Argentina World Cup star LIONEL MESSI did score in the 21st minute to give the hosts the lead, but FC Barcelona, who had scored nine goals in five La Liga games coming into the match with Real Mallorca, would not put another ball into the net the rest of the way.

And, the visitors struck back shortly before halftime with a goal from 21-year-old striker EMILIO NSUE.

Meanwhile, ahead of his country’s critical qualifying match with Croatia for top of Group F in the European Championships, Aouate turned in another stand out effort (nine saves) between the sticks for Real Mallorca against a top-shelf European side in the 1-1 draw.

Liverpool Unload Mascherano On Barca

========================================================

English Premier League outfit FC LIVERPOOL have announced terms have been agreed to sell unsettled Argentina World Cup midfielder JAVIER MASCHERANO to Spanish Primera Division powerhouse FC BARCELONA for a reported fee of 21.0 million Euros plus perfomance bonuses, this according to Goal.com UK.

Barcelona have confirmed that a four-year contract worth roughly 90,000 English pounds per week is expected to be signed by Mascherano over the weekend, this per the Mail Online (dailymail.co.uk).

Mascherano arrived at Anfield in January of 2007 initially on loan from West Ham United and ultimately cost the Reds 18.6 million English pounds for permanent transfer; the 26-year-old sat out Liverpool’s 3-0 loss to Manchester City last Monday and had announced he would no longer suit up for the Reds in an effort to hasten his departure.

Mascherano, who has earned 62 caps (2 goals) for Argentina, came up through the youth system at River Plate and later moved to Brazilian club SC Corinthians Paulista of Sao Paulo before heading to England in the summer of 2006.

In all competitions, the ball-winning, defensive midfielder made 122 appearances for FC Liverpool and scored two goals.
