Well off their goal-scoring pace of a season ago is AJAX AMSTERDAM, who led the Eredivisie with 106 goals last season. This total for de Godenzonen was a whopping 34 goals — or exactly one goal per game on average — more than the next highest-scoring side in the Dutch top flight last term, PSV Eindhoven. Ajax Amsterdam striker LUIS SUAREZ led the Eredivisie with 35 goals in 33 games; the 23-year-old Uruguay World Cup star has scored seven goals on 13 appearances in the Dutch league this season.

The partnership of Suarez and Serbia World Cup striker MARKO PANTELIC combined to score 49 goals for Ajax Amsterdam in the Dutch Eredivisie for the 2009-10 season. Ajax offered the 32-year-old veteran Serb a new contract, but for only one season with an option for another. Pantelic, wanting a longer term, rejected the deal and instead left for Greek club FC Olympiakos Piraeus on a free transfer.

This summer, Ajax signed 27-year-old Morocco international striker MOUNIR EL HAMDAOUI from AZ 67 Alkmaar for a fee of 5.0 million Euros.
