It is all rather appropriate that the record-breaking goal scored by veteran Spain international striker RAUL GONZALEZ of German Bundesliga club Schalke 04 Gelsenkirchen arrived on Spanish soil, opposite CF Valenica in the UEFA Champions League.
The 33-year-old highly-experienced Torjaeger established a new mark for goals in European club competitions with a 71st career strike at the venerable Estadio Mestalla in the Mediterranean port city on the east coast of Spain.
Of course, all but three of those tallies by Raul were for the benefit of CF Real Madrid, the legendary Spanish La Liga side.
After 16 seasons and 228 league goals for Los Blancos, the former Real Madrid captain signed with Bundesliga runners-up Schalke 04 Gelsenkirchen on a free transfer this past summer. Raul scored five goals in 30 La Liga games last season for Los Merengues, who, ironically enough, have struggled with depth at striker this season. Meanwhile, the all-time scoring leader for the national team of Spain leads Schalke 04 with 10 goals in 22 Bundesliga matches this term.
